Wei-Bin Zhang joined the Institute of Transportation Studies, University of California at Berkeley in 1987, and participated in the early founding of the PATH Program. His research covers a broad spectrum of ITS, with considerably more emphasis on technologies and deployment issues for Vehicle Highway Automation. He was the Technical Director of National Automated Highway Systems Consortium (NAHSC) and managed the development of automated platooning system for Demo '97. He later led the development of collision warning technologies for urban applications and the California efforts on implementation of automated guidance technologies for snow removal and transit applications including the USDOT funded Vehicle Assist and Automation program to implement automated guidance system on transit buses for field operational tests in revenue services.  He have recently been leading various Connected Vehicle related research at PATH, including MMMITSS, Dynamic Transit Operation and application of real-time information for encouraging smart travel choice.
